Dr. Steven J. Dell of Dell Laser Consultants Among the First Surgeons in the U.S. to Implant the New TECNIS PureSee™ IOL

AUSTIN, TX, UNITED STATES, April 2, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Dell Laser Consultants is proud to be among the first practices in the United States to offer the TECNIS PureSee™ intraocular lens (IOL), the newest extended depth of focus (EDOF) lens from Johnson & Johnson Vision, now available to cataract surgery and refractive lens exchange (RLE) patients in Austin, TX. Built on the industry-leading TECNIS platform, it is an advanced lens designed to deliver excellent distance and intermediate vision with functional near vision, while minimizing the glare, halos, and contrast issues that have historically accompanied premium IOL options.

The TECNIS PureSee™ IOL, recently FDA-approved and recognized with the 2025 MedTech Breakthrough Award for "Best New Technology Solution – Ophthalmology," is the first and only FDA-approved EDOF IOL in the United States with no warning on loss of contrast sensitivity. Contrast sensitivity refers to a patient's ability to distinguish objects from their background, particularly in low-light or foggy conditions.

Aspheric monofocal IOLs have long been the benchmark for preserving contrast sensitivity, and the TECNIS PureSee™ IOL maintains a comparable profile while offering an extended range of vision. In a prospective, randomized, multi-center clinical study, 97% of patients reported no very bothersome visual disturbances, 90% occasionally or never wore glasses, and 97% said they would recommend the lens to friends or family.

The lens is an excellent choice for patients undergoing cataract surgery as well as those pursuing refractive lens exchange, a procedure in which the eye's natural lens is replaced with an IOL to address presbyopia and reduce dependence on glasses. In a single procedure, the TECNIS PureSee™ IOL addresses both cataract-related vision loss and the effects of presbyopia.

"This lens represents an important step forward for our patients," said Dr. Steven J. Dell. "The TECNIS PureSee™ IOL offers something genuinely new: a premium extended depth of focus lens that doesn't ask patients to accept compromises in visual quality in exchange for greater range. That's a combination our patients have been waiting for."

Dr. Dell's early access to the TECNIS PureSee™ IOL reflects a long track record of bringing new technologies to Austin patients ahead of most practices nationwide. In 2010, he became the second surgeon in the United States to perform laser cataract surgery, and his FDA-sponsored clinical research in 2001 contributed directly to the approval of the first multifocal IOLs. His consulting relationships with leading ophthalmic companies have consistently allowed Dell Laser Consultants to offer advanced options like the TECNIS PureSee™ IOL years before they become widely available.
