Horry County Fire Rescue wins SCAC award for pre-hospital blood program

Earlier today, Horry County Fire Rescue leaders joined Horry County Council's Chairman Gardner and Councilman Masciarelli in Columbia for the annual South Carolina Association of Counties award ceremony, with HCFR's new pre-hospital blood program winning the J. Mitchell Graham Memorial award.

Fire Chief Tanner, Assistant Chief Lawson (EMS Operations Manager) and Capt. Smith from HCFR's medical training staff accepted the award, given by SCAC Chairman Cecil M. Thornton Jr., following a presentation last month at which Chief Lawson and Capt. Smith explained the extent to which this pre-hospital blood program saves lives in Horry County.

HCFR is on the forefront of pre-hospital care in South Carolina with this program and other HCFR EMS initiatives, and HCFR is honored to be recognized for these life-saving efforts.

With this program, HCFR EMS supervisors bring and deploy blood to patients suffering traumatic injuries.
